Nexus 2018, a wrap-up

The launch of the Nexus 2018 professional development program was a great success and focused on artists and producers with lived experience of mental health recovery. The multi-discipline artists learnt tips directly from awesome folks from Melbourne Fringe, Theatre Network Australia, SYN Media, Express Media, The Other Film Festival and Auspicious Arts. Nexus alumni continue to work on new arts advocacy projects this year.

Here’s what they’re up to:

- Nexus Zine launch: at their own stall at the F
estival of the Photocopier on the weekend of 9 and 10 February in Carlton. Please go and see their incredible work. The artists want to put this zine in places like headspace and MIND. Details can be found at Sticky Institute
- SYN media training: With the support of Arts Access Victoria and SYN Media Training, the artists are about to attend a two-day intensive at RMIT to learn how to present on radio and on
camera and make video-casts and podcasts. This also means ten new power people advocating in cross-media for rightful access to the arts.

The Nexus 2018 artists were also at The Other Film Festival 2018 last November as artists in residency. They created visual art in response around themes raised in films/panels in the festival, and they also staged and Instagram takeover.

Nexus will be running again in 2019. The next series will invite emerging/semi-professional artists and producers from all disability lived experience.
