Jolting the System is a series of conversations that explore our perceptions about disability and how they impact us all.

Through two-way conversations we will discuss ableism, unconscious bias, and the barriers faced by Deaf and Disabled people.

This training covers:

• Definitions of Disability and Ableism. This includes different models of Disability and Disability Identity.
• Language, stereotypes and representations
• Major Disability History Events
• Creating welcoming environments
• Disability Pride and Leadership
• Principles of Universal Design

Jolting the System is a dynamic learning experience where you will learn from and engage with Deaf and Disabled trainers.

Run time: 4 hours with breaks.

This Training Covers:

• Discuss Cultural safety, ableism, disability justice and the Social Model of Disability.
• Learn the 10 essential steps to achieve Cultural Safety in your organisations
• Discover how to create cultural safety in programming, audiences, arts practice and leadership for Deaf and Disabled artists, arts workers and audiences
• Reflect on your motivations, cultural competency and the impact it has on your work
• Discuss how you can be an effective ally to Deaf and Disabled artists and arks workers

This session would be great to offer to Board Members and all Senior Management staff.

Run Time: 2 hours

This Training Covers:

• Disability representation, stereotypes and language
• How to create welcoming environments
• Practical tips for welcoming all visitors
• Tips for increasing Deaf and Disabled visitor participation

This training is for front of house staff or anyone working with a public focus.

Run Time: 1–3 hours

This Training Covers:

• Gain an understanding of inclusive recruitment and retention of Deaf and Disabled Board members, staff, contractors and creatives
• Discuss barriers in the recruitment and selection processes for Deaf and Disabled candidates
• Discuss retention strategies that ensure safety and equity for Deaf and Disabled staff, board members, contractors and artists
• Engage in self reflection to examine motivations, cultural competency and the impact of their work
• This session also includes the 10 essential steps to achieving Cultural Safety in your organisations

This training is for anyone who managers staff or is involved in recruitment processes

Run Time: 2–3 Hour

This Training Covers:

• Cultural context around arts and accessibility
• What accessible practice is
• How to make your practice accessible

This training is for teachers, arts workers, arts managers, directors and facilitators in any art form and medium.

Run Time: 3 Hours
