Alter State
4 days of ideas, connection and celebration of Deaf and Disabled creatives across Melbourne from the 2nd-5th December.
Alter State will span the arts, screen, digital games and creative sectors. The events include a symposium and industry gathering surrounded by an opening and closing night party.
Connection, cultural safety and new creative pathways will shape three days of the industry Symposium and Gathering. Exploring Alter State’s theme of Regeneration: Building Deaf and Disabled Futures, the program will bring participants together to exchange ideas about creative practice and what comes next.
- Wednesday 2 December, 1.30-2:15 pm – Alter State opens at Arts Centre Melbourne with a Welcome to Country by Wurundjeri Traditional Owners (Free)
- Wednesday 2 December, 2.30-5:30 pm – Alter State Symposium begins at Arts Centre Melbourne and online. Participants will be brought together to focus on topics including creative control and cultural safety for Deaf and Disabled artists (Ticketed)
- Wednesday 2 December, 7:00 – 10:00 pm – Opening Night Party at Arts Centre Melbourne (Free)
- Thursday 3 December, 1:00 – 5:30 pm – Alter State Symposium continues at Arts Centre Melbourne and online, turning the spotlight to practice and pathways for Deaf and Disabled creatives across art forms. (Ticketed)
- Friday 4 December, 12:00 – 5:00 pm – Alter State Gathering will bring participants together in person at The Edge, Fed Square, for sessions focused on community reflection and collaboration with the screen and gaming sectors. The program will also include a co-design planning session for accessible marketplaces around Australia. (Ticketed)
- Saturday 5 December, 6:00 – 11:00 pm – Alter State concludes with a free Closing Night event at Collingwood Yards. (Free)
Outside of these industry-focused discussions, you can experience the work of Deaf and Disabled artists across Melbourne from the 18th November – 5th December. Highlights include WHITE Noise by Touch Compass, The Other Film Festival, New Work Club and Beyond the Bones.
Everyone is welcome to attend Alter State. In-person tickets range from $0 to $25, with sliding-scale pricing for Deaf, Disabled and First Nations participants.
