KOCHAVA LILIT: This project I’ve been looking up to facilitate an amazing co-design group of young disabled people to help develop some ideas for programs to support young disabled artists. Young people came up with a huge range of ideas for things they’d like to see and things they’d like to see change in how the arts industry works. And they spent a couple of weeks narrowing those down. And today, we spend a couple of hours just dedicated to making art about this. They’re creating zines and papers explaining the ideas and why they matter to them.
EMILY: You know, a program that really encourages my thoughts and opinions and gives me a lot of new perspectives to hear.
KOCHAVA LILIT: We’ve also had guest speakers in the first sort of hour. These have been disabled artists who are more established, who worked on larger projects.
EMILY: And just how these things grow together and created and like knowing these could be things that can happen and that can make an impact for people.
KOCHAVA LILIT: And we’re developing these to hopefully turn into projects that Arts Access Victoria could run or that other organisations could get involved in supporting, so that we can see projects designed by, led by and existing for young disabled artists. (MUSIC PLAYS)
