Feature Paintings

A solo exhibtion for Matthew Simpson at the Dax Centre

an abstract paining made up of curly lines.

Matthew Simpson, Fissure, acrylic on canvas, 2021, 1015 x 1015 mm

Matthew Simpson is a visual artist with a hidden disability. Matthew has painted for many years. Matthew studied fine art at the Victorian College of the Arts in the 1980s.

Matthew’s recent works have focused on the possibilities of form and pattern that emerge through a process of repeated line work. The process involves both random and considered mark-making to reveal structures that arise. The line is one of the seven identified design elements. By concentrating on one element, Matthew focuses on the tension that their colours create with one another.
