Into the Limelight: Making Authentic Movies

Join us for the premiere of Into the Limelight 2022.

We are presenting an exciting film project, called Into the Limelight, exploring the link between creativity and mental illness. It is a collection of very short comedy film sketches, written by acclaimed playwright Neil Cole, and features the involvement of people with a diagnosis of chronic mental illness.

Neil, himself a mental health survivor, has great experience in the creative world. He has written over thirty plays and numerous short films. He was joined by a professional film crew to support the aspiring actors encouraging those involved to gain confidence in performing in front of the camera. Previous renditions of Into the Limelight have been funded by Creative Victoria and screened at the prestigious St Kilda Film Festival in 2017 and 2019.

Some of the films include a chaotic hospital, a dysfunctional funeral parlour, poems by Michael Crane, Isabella Fells, Victor Tran and songs featuring Neil Cole, Jo Marie (ukulele) Chris Wright (Saxophone) and Cat Carmody (Directed by Spike McKenzie)

This event is in partnership with The St Kilda Film Festival and the Florey Institute.
