Join us for a Deaf led film industry panel and networking session.

This Deaf-led industry event explores the inclusive production process behind the powerful new Australian short film – Dry Fire which is included in this year’s Top 100. Moving beyond consultation, Dry Fire features members of the local Deaf community with Catherine Lillian in a lead role and co-directed by Ramas McRae. Hosted by Walter Kadiki and Mija Gywn, the event will be in Auslan and translated into English.

3 – 5 pm: Making Authentic Movies Panel

5.15 – 6.30 pm: Networking drinks

There will be Social interpreters after the panel.

Presented in partnership with Arts Access Victoria and the St Kilda Film Festival.

How to get there

JMC Academy is down the street from the AAV offices and The South Melbourne Town Hall

Car Parking: There is limited street parking in front of and around JMC Acadamy. All the street parking is 1 or 2 hours paid. There are a few accessible parking spaces next to the South Melbourne Townhall.

Tram: There are 3 tram lines near JMC Academy.

  • Route 1 (high-floor tram): Stop 25, Park Street and Clarendon Street (not an accessible stop)
  • Route 12 (high-floor tram): Stop 128, Clarendon Street and Dorcas Street or Stop 129, Clarendon Street and Park Street (not an accessible stop)
  • Route 96 (this is the only low-floor accessible tram that services South Melbourne): Stop 127, South Melbourne Station (wheelchair accessible)

Train: The closest train stations are Southern Cross Station (~2kms) and Flinders Street Station (~2.5kms). From Southern Cross, you can connect to the 12 or 96 trams; from Flinders Street, you can connect to the 1 tram.
