The Other Film Festival is celebrating 21 years of Deaf and Disabled cinema.

The 2025 Program is stacked! We are bringing you 7 events in collaboration with our partners and supporters. Join us in person and online to immerse yourself in everything this year’s festival has to offer. From Wednesday 12 November – 3 December.

This year’s screening program includes 10 Deaf and Disabled films. Enjoy a selection of features and shorts from the comfort of home. Screening online at ACMI Cinema 3. Thursday 20 November – Wednesday 3 December.

Black Time White Time (2023, Australia) A tech-savvy teen, who relocates to live with her Deaf Aunty, must learn Auslan and deal with a technophobic, reclusive watchmaker, who challenges her world.

Compare the Parents (2023, Australia) This short film captures the discrimination parents with intellectual disability face when they become parents.

Dark Matter (2024, Australia) A disabled wheelchair user tries to solve the biggest question in physics, a solution to the theory of everything, while rubbish piles up on his balcony.

Eye of the Game (2025, Australia) Born Deaf, an Australian Rules footballer defies expectations by playing in an all hearing team, striving to claim the ruck position in the seniors.

Home Is Where The Art Is (2024, Australia) A film that takes you inside AAV’s SRS (Supported Residential Services) Studios, where artists have been creating works for over 30 years.

No Prior Opportunity (2025, Australia) Rhys Gilday, a man on the autism spectrum, and his love of AFL umpires, shine a spotlight on the game’s most misunderstood figures.

Where the World is Quiet (2025, Australia) Where the World is Quiet reveals a personal side of former Australian of the Year Grace Tame shaped by autism, auditory processing disorder, and a need to outrun the noise.

 

The Other Film Festival is a major Arts Access Victoria project. Festival partners include: City of Melborune, VicScreen, Acmi, MapCo, Vision Australia Radio, Creative Australia and Victorian Government.
