Ash Hem

Ash is a visual artist who pulls from their experiences to create things. This includes their queerness, gender, culture, disability and all other bits of their life.

To them, art captures something they can never quite catch with words. Art and creativity is the way they work with the world.

They especially enjoy creating things that reflect and contain their sensory experience of the world. This leads to very colourful, messy, patchwork’d, scribbly bits being caught in the artwork.

Ash is currently working a lot with collage, sewing, soft sculpture and abstract drawing. They also enjoy working with clay, paper cutting, origami and installations.

Ash is also a lived experience worker and their art influences this work as well. They bring the creativity they have built with their art to the way they work with others.
