Kristy Sweeney

Kristy Sweeney has been a member of Art Day South for over 20 years. Her drawings of birds and other animals are striking and otherworldly, like zoological illustrations from another planet. Kristy manages to make a bird look like a colourful prankster, a description which would be fitting for the artist herself.

Kristy is a prolific drawer whose interest in birds features in her artwork. Kristy draws birds in mid action, often in mid-flight and in a flock. Each bird is unique and has its own form, colour and personality. Whilst Kristy has a distinctive style in drawing, no two birds are the same. Over the past 2 years Kristy has extended her drawing technique to incorporate watercolour which has created a vibrant and fluid drawing style. More recently, Kristy has been exploring textiles and embroidery, embellishing fabric with her whimsical creatures through colourful and quirky stitchwork. She has created an entire quilt which features numerous critters and creatures and is working towards designing a series of wearable embroidered garments, having a passion for fashion.
