The Winner of the 2024 Lesley Hall Scholarship is Julie Dickson!

We are proud to announce this year's winner of the Lesley Hall Scholarship is Julie Dickson!

Julie Dickson received her award at our last Gathering for 2024.

Julie is a writer based in Naarm. As a person of short stature, she wants to see more short statured people represented positively in fiction. She is writing a contemporary young adult novel. The main character is a person of short stature.

Julie has written for ABC Sport and SOCIETY19. She has had poetry published in WORDLY. She is a recipient of the Wheeler Centre Hot Desk, Varuna Write Space, and Writers Victoria Storming the City fellowships.

Julie said, “I would like to thank Arts Access Victoria for this amazing opportunity and for this scholarship.

It’s such an honour and it means a lot to know that I am following Leslie Hall’s legacy. She was an amazing disability activist who did so much to advance disability rights.

I’m really grateful to receive this scholarship because it will help me [finish] writing my novel… and to submit it out into the world.”
